Dr. N. Nagaraj, currently working as Professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Agricultural Sciences , Bangalore , involving in teaching, research and outreach activities. He was conferred the Jawaharlal Nehru award for the best Ph.D. dissertation entitled" Groundwater Irrigation from Low Yielding Borewells in Hard rock areas of Karnakata - An economic analysis" by Indian Council of Agricultural Research for the year 1995. He was awarded Postdoctoral Fellowship from French Government for the year, 1997-98, and a Fulbright Fellowship for the postdoctoral studies for the year 1998-99 at the University of Colorado, Fort Collins, USA. He had been a visiting fellow at University of Arizona, Tucson, USA, in Environmental Economic Research Oversea Fellowship under the World Bank aided India Capacity Building Project for the year 2000. He received the D. K. Desai award for the best article in Agricultural Economics by Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, for the year 1995, entitled "Low yielding irrigation wells in peninsular India - An economic analysis.

He has specialized in the area of Natural Resource Economics (Water Resource Economics), Farm Management and Production Economics, Development, Markets and Policy and has published several articles in national and International journals. Currently, he is the Principal investigator for the following projects: 1) Institutional and Economic Analysis of Water Harvesting in Different Micro-watersheds in Eastern and Central Dry Zones of Karnataka, Sponsored by World Bank-Sujala watershed, Government of Karnataka, 2) The Next Generation: Developing India's Institutional Capacity to Confront Agriculture's 21 st Century challenges (sponsored by HED-USAID) and Economic Impacts of Contract Farming on different classes of farmers (Sponsored by International Food Policy research Institute, Washington DC, US).
