The Best Bakery Case

The Best Bakery Case arose as a consequence of the killing of 14 persons on the intervening night of 1st/2 nd March 2002 in the building of the Best Bakery situated in Hanuman Tekri area of Vadodara in Gujarat. The Trial Court acquitted all 21 accused following the fact that key eyewitnesses failed for fear of reprisal to repeat the statements they had earlier made to the police. Subsequently, the National Human Rights Commission requested the Supreme Court to set aside the order of acquittal.
