Geneva Office

The Geneva office is situated at the International Environment House, the hub of all environment-related activities at the international level in Geneva. This gives IELRC unprecedented access to a network of researchers, policy makers and activists on a broad range of environmental issues. Further, the fact that Geneva is also home to a significant part of the international institutional capacity concerning such issues of direct relevance to IELRC’s mandate as human rights (the United Nations Office for Human Rights), trade (WTO, UNCTAD) and intellectual property protection (WIPO, UPOV) provides IELRC-Geneva with the best possible basis to carry out its mandate and provide effective collaboration with its Southern partners.

IELRC is accredited as an institution which can host Swiss citizens doing civil service in Switzerland. Please follow this link to reach the civil service website or contact us directly for more information.

The Geneva office has three main functions:

Firstly, it carries out its own research which focuses to a large extent on international law and policy in keeping with the work that goes on in Geneva.

Secondly, it organises events in Geneva and in other parts of the world as appropriate.

Thirdly, it coordinates activities and research with the Kenyan and Indian offices. It also constitutes the focal point for relations with the United Nations and other international organisations with which IELRC has relations as well as authorities in Berne and Geneva.
