Philippe CULLET, Lic. iur., LLM, MA, JSM, JSD

Dr Philippe Cullet is a Reader in Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies – University of London (SOAS) where he teaches law related to the environment, natural resources and intellectual property. He is a Founding Director and the Programme Director for Europe of IELRC. He studied law at the University of Geneva and King’s College London (LLM). He received an MA in development studies from SOAS and went on to receive his doctoral degree in international environmental law from Stanford Law School, Stanford University.

Alexandre Dufresne, MSc, MPhil

Alexandre Dufresne, Programme Associate, holds a Master in biology and an MPhil in development studies from the University of Geneva. He has focused on sustainable development in the field of biotechnology, higher education and international trade, including intellectual property rights, environmental economy and public policy evaluation. Alexandre has worked for 3D (Trade, Human Rights and Equitable Economy), UNCTAD's BioTrade Initiative and is the founder and former Director of GEDUC, an organisation active in the field of academic institutions.


 
     
 
Francois GERVAZ, BEng, MBA

François Gervaz, Member of the Board, Planning Adviser and IT coordinator, holds a degree in engineering from Geneva and an MBA from the University of Oxford.
He provides advice on marketing, fund-raising and information technology.


 
     
 
Alix GOWLLAND-GUALTIERI, Lic. iur., LLM, DPhil

Dr Alix Gowlland, Research Fellow, holds a doctorate in law (DPhil) from Oxford University and previously received an LLM from UC Berkeley. Her primary research area is international environmental law, with a particular focus on trade and environment, accountability of international financial organisations such as the World Bank, participation and information disclosure, human rights and environment, water, and wildlife law.

Thoko KAIME, LLB, LLM, PhD

Dr Thoko Kaime, a Law Researcher, holds a doctorate in law (PhD) from SOAS. He previously received an LLM in international human rights law from the University of Pretoria after studying at the University of Malawi and the University of Western Cape. His research areas include children's rights, human rights, intellectual property protection and water law.


 
     
 
Patricia KAMERI-MBOTE, LLB, LLM, DWL, JSM, JSD

Dr Patricia Kameri-Mbote is a Founding Director of IELRC and Programme Director for Africa. She holds a doctorate in law (JSD) from Stanford Law School, Stanford University and previously studied law at the University of Nairobi, the University of Warwick and the University of Zimbabwe. She is an Associate Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Nairobi and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Andrés Olleta, LLB, DEA

Andrés Olleta, a Law Researcher, holds Diploma of Lawyer from the Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bahía Blanca (Argentina) and a DEA in international relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI), Geneva. He is currently a PhD candidate at HEI working on developing countries' interests in international law making.


 
     
 
Usha RAMANATHAN, BA, BL, LLM, PhD

Dr Usha Ramanathan, Member - Advisory Council for India, is a law researcher and teacher based in New Delhi. She holds a doctorate in law (PhD) from the University of Delhi and previously studied law at Madras University and the University of Nagpur.

David Takacs, BSc, MA, PhD

Dr David Takacs, a Research Associate, holds a PhD in Science & Technology Studies from Cornell University. He holds an LLM from SOAS and a JD candidate from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He is the author of The Idea of Biodiversity (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996). He is currently working as a consultant on legal issues related to property rights and forest carbon for Conservation International.
